‘I wish the new leader and his deputy well’

Coun Simon Greaves has been appointed as his successor, along with new deputy Coun Griff Wynne, following a Labour Party meeting on Tuesday night.

The move comes after Coun Oxby led his party through last week’s elections, which saw Labour scoop seven new seats.

Coun Oxby, who was elected as leader last year, remained upbeat despite losing out to Coun Greaves.

“There was a challenge to the leadership and on this occasion I lost - that’s democracy,” he said.

“It’s going to be extremely difficult over the next year, but I genuinely wish the new leadership well and I sincerely hope they do a good job for the people of Bassetlaw.”

He added: “A number of good things have happened in the past year which have changed the face of Worksop and we need to continue that to benefit the people of Bassetlaw.”

Coun Greaves said he looked forward to working hard for the people of Bassetlaw in his new position - to be formally ratified at next Wednesday’s AGM.

“Both myself and the incoming Deputy Leader, Griff Wynne would like to pay tribute to Graham’s commitment and dedication to Bassetlaw. He has worked tirelessly as a champion for the district, our communities and the local party over the last 16 years,” he said.
