Hundreds of runners raise cash for Bluebell Wood at Retford Half Marathon

The fun-filled event on 8th March, organised by Retford Athletic Club, attracted more than 700 keen runners taking part in the half marathon and the fun run.

Bluebell Wood was the event’s charity partner; the North Anston based hospice needs to raise over £3m a year to keep its doors open.

The first Bluebell Wood runner over the finish line was Richard Green, he said: “Running my first half marathon I wanted to run near to my local area and to contribute to a local charity. Bluebell Wood was the perfect choice for me as they do so much for the children in their care.”

“Raising the money I have by completing the Retford Half Marathon, I hope, in some small way, will help the children who so very much need the support of Bluebell Wood.” “Running for Bluebell Wood inspired me to a new personal best finish in an official half marathon.”

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice has a highly specialised care team, offering care and support to children with complex medical needs and a shortened life expectancy. The hospice cares for over 200 children both in the hospice and in the community.

Melanie Rose said: “Our hospice is genuinely filled with love and laughter; it is a place where we help to create special memories for our families.

“Events such as this help us to raise vital funds for our hospice and having such incredible support from community members is invaluable.”
