How to get involved with Sport for Kids Like Yours

Mascots Spongebob Squarepants, Angry Birds and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were on hand to greet shoppers in Retford town centre.

The S.K.Y team, which included 45 volunteers and children, spent the day handing out goody bags to raise awareness of the charity and UK Taekwondo’s work, along with information flyers and offers from town centre shops.

The charity also invited hundreds of members into town from Langold and Thorne to East Markham and Bassetlaw to come along to support the event.

Tony McManus, who created S.K.Y, said along with the brilliant weather and Farmers’ Market, Retford was ‘rocking’ with a brilliant ‘feel-good’ atmosphere.

“The event was to give the children a thank you for the many years they have attended my club and to raise awareness of the fantastic shops we have in our town selling a range of different products” he said.

“We had plenty of local businesses such as Bookwork, Mystik and Swoon Bakery handing out goody bags and the Bike Pedlars shop owner rang me on the day to donate a brand-new BMX bike as a raffle prize, which I am grateful for.”

“I would also like to thank the volunteers and our president Coun Wendy Quigley and Coun Adele Mumby who has supported S.K.Y. in her role as a parent and friend for many years. It was great to see them in the town with their families.”
