Housing plans for car workshop

A car garage in Warsop could be bulldozed to make way for housing after an application was submitted to planners.

Oak Garage and Car Sales sits on the corner of Church Street and Hetts Lane but could be transformed into a cul-de-sac.

In an application submitted to Mansfield District Council, it states that the business is finding it difficult to compete with other specialist operators in vehicle maintenance.

If approved, it could see the workshop torn down and eight homes being built - six two-bedroom semi-detached properties and two three-bedroom detached homes.

The land covers 1,818 sq m and the applicant, Kevin Hardwick - who is also the proprietor of Oak Garage - suggest it is ideal for development.

In a planning statement prepared on behalf of Mr Hardwick , it reads: “The development proposed offers and opportunity to utilise a piece of previously developed land, which is considered to be readily deliverable for development.”

As part of the plans, a private drive would be created off Hetts Lane, opposite Hetts Lane Infants and Nursery.

Parking spaces for up to 16 vehicles would be created.
