Homes plans for old poultry farm

Up to 25 houses are being proposed for the land at the end of Cinder Lane, Ollerton.

The cul-de-sac on the edge of town could now become the access point to the new housing.

The land has been vacant for years and has been previously identified as having the potential for development.

Poultry houses that once occupied the land were demolished in the last year due to their dilapidated state.

The blueprints, which have now been sent to Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning department, shows just a section of the available 0.96 hectare available land would be utilised.

If given approval, it could see four two-bedroom homes, 15 three-bedroom homes and six with four or more bedrooms built.

They will all be two storey in height and around 30 per cent of the homes will be deemed as ‘affordable housing’. More than 60 parking spacers would be created.

The applicant, Anne Staley, said: “I have recently invested significant funds demolishing the poultry sheds and tidying the site up and propose a modest and sensitively designed housing scheme to round off Cinder Lane and provide further much-needed housing in the area.

“A range of properties are proposed including larger detached family homes, smaller starter homes plus some affordable housing.”

The site was subject to a planning application in 1995 in which the green light was given for a bungalow to be built on a small section of the land.

However, that has never come to fruition.

Construction of a major housing development just north east of the site is already underway after planning permission was granted in 2014.

Just off Wellow Road, it will provide a further 150 homes.

The entrance to Cinder Lane, which will be the only way into the proposed 25-home site, is just yards from the larger development.

Newark and Sherwood district councillor for Ollerton, Ben Wells, sits on the planning committee but said: “It’s been vacant for years but I think the people on Cinder Lane may be concerned about this.”
