Bassetlaw Council gave the green light to plans for 80 homes and a 72-bed care home people and 15 units for elderly on the former Dormer Tools Ltd site on Shireoaks Road.
Our Facebook readers had mixed reactions to the plans, which were passed at Bassetlaw Council’s planning meeting on Wednesday 1st May.
Richard Edwards said he felt Worksop doesn’t need a new housing development.
“Too many houses are springing up around town,” he said.
“Our substandard infrastructure can’t take the extra growth in the town.”
But Claire Scott said she thought it was just the kind of development needed on Shireoaks Road.
“Who cares as long as someone is making good use of an eyesore?” he said.
Bassetlaw Council say various planning applications have previously been submitted to the authority to develop the site of the former Dormer Tools factory.
Outline planning permission was refused in December 2008 for a residential development and subsequently dismissed on appeal in September 2009.
A council spokesman said an objection for this development had received one objection from the owner of Newton House Care Home in Shireoaks.
“Their care home has been established for 26 years and they feel the proposed construction of the 72 bed care home, along with other dwellings, would have a detrimental effect on their future businesses, which has 12 beds,” he said.
Notts Wildlife Trust have also placed a holding objection on the application, pending a reptile survey o n the ‘large number’ ofslow worms and lizards in the area.
