Hilltop Social Club to reopen on Friday after fire

“We’ll be open tomorrow” is the message from Hilltop Social Club in Gainsborough which was struck by fire yesterday.

Four fire engines tackled the blaze on the roof of the club in Turpin Road, which broke out at around midday on Wednesday.

An area of roof around 15 square metres was damaged. The debris could be seen afterwards in a skip nearby.

“It is not as bad as people are making out,” said club stewardess Gemma Clark.

“It has destroyed part of the roof and the timber above our concert room, but we haven’t lost the whole roof or the building.”

“It was an accident. We don’t know how it happened yet until it’s been investigated.”

Gemma said workmen were working on the roof when the fire broke out, but not in the same place.

The club was closed yesterday and today, but will re-open tomorrow.

“We’ll have the bar open but the concert room will remain shut until further notice,” said Gemma.

Hilltop Social Club is a popular venue with people in the Uphill area of Gainsborough.

It is a private members club offering bingo sessions, darts dominoes and pool.
