It was the day 96 football fans went to watch a game and never came home.

For almost three decades, the families of those involved have been fighting for answers, and more importantly, for justice.

And now, a jury has said that the 96 people who died that day were killed unlawfully.

Having spent two years listening to evidence from a huge number of people, the panel of six women and three men were asked to reach a conclusion on 14 key questions.

These questions related to the behaviour of the fans themselves, the policing operation and the emergency response to the unfolding situation.

Two investigations into the disaster are still ongoing, however.

Our group editor Ashley Booker was at Hillsborough on the day of the tragedy. Read his account of the day, which he wrote in 2012, here
