High praise for an outstanding school

It was all smiles at one local junior school last week as staff and pupils celebrated achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating from Ofsted.

White’s Wood Lane Community Junior School in Gainsborough achieved the highest grade possible after inspectors visited on 5th and 6th October.

Only 10 per cent of primary schools have achieved the Ofsted Outstanding Grade, and White’s Wood Lane is the only junior school in Lincolnshire judged to be outstanding.

The report said pupils at the school ‘benefit from an outstanding education’ and that the attainment of pupils leaving Year six has been high as a result of the ‘outstanding progress that all groups of pupils make’.

It continued: “Behaviour is outstanding. This is characterised in lessons by pupils that engage extremely enthusiastically with their work, demonstrating high levels of independence, perseverance and team-work skills.”

“Pupils demonstrate great respect for each other and for people that are from different cultures”.

“Pupils benefit from highly enriched activities that provide them with many memorable experiences that enhance their learning extremely well”.

The inspector also praised the way the school cares for children, adding: “Procedures to care for and safeguard pupils whose circumstances may make them vulnerable are exemplary.”

“Staff know each pupil individually extremely well and are very successful at ensuring all pupils will thrive”

“The pupils feel very safe in school and are very well equipped to ensure that they stay safe in day-to-day situation”.

Headteacher Sharron Close was delighted with the report and said that White’s Wood Lane prides itself on its team work.

She continued: “The partnership between parents, staff, and all the people that have supported us over the last few years has all been part of the school’s success.”

“The children have been amazing and really made us feel proud during the Inspection.”

“It has been my pleasure to be part of the long journey to success, but this isn’t where the journey ends.”

“We are all committed to continuing to provide the very best for all children who attend White’s Wood Lane Junior School.”
