Heroic Worksop schoolboy rushed to rescue of friend who cut her leg open

Spencer Presho, who was just nine at the time of the accident, was presented with the accolade in a special assembly at Whitwell Primary School.

The youngster had been playing at his friend Kasey Clarkson’s house when she fell over onto a metal box, cutting her leg which immediately began pouring with blood.

Calmly instructing Kasey’s twin brother Callum to call for help, Spencer ripped off his prized Barcelona football shirt and quickly wrapped it around Kasey’s leg, stemming the bleeding.

He also reassured Kasey, who has become very distressed, by telling her to look at him and not at her injured leg.

Kasey was later taken to Bassetlaw Hospital A&E by her mum where she had to have eight stitches and six steristrips.

Spencer’s nan, Sylvia Middleton, contacted the Guardian to nominate her “amazing” grandson, who recently turned ten.

She said“We could not be prouder of Spencer.

“If it wasn’t for his quick-thinking and bravery, the outcome could have been a lot worse.

“The football shirt was very expensive and a prized possession, but he didn’t think twice about ripping it to help a friend in need.

“Spencer dreams of being a firefighter one day. Judging by his behaviour, it’s clear he would do an excellent job.”

Kasey’s mum, Stacy Clarkson, said: “I want to say a massiveve well done to Spencer, and a huge thank you for being there for my daughter at the time.

“It was such a brave thing to do. We are all very proud.”

During the assembly, Spencer was also presented with a certificate by his headteacher, Mrs Duncan.
