Help promote FairTrade aim

GAINSBOROUGH’s Social Justice Action Group will hold a crucial meeting on Monday 10th September.

The meeting, at 7.30pm in the United Reformed Church on Church Street, will seek to appoint a steering committee to drive forward the town’s FairTrade status.

This year, Gainsborough was granted FairTrade status for the third time running, thanks to the hard work of a small group of people.

“It is an incredible achievement for a small town - even the city of Lincoln has achieved FairTrade status,” said secretary Ann Lewis.

But the status comes up for review in two years time, when higher goals will need to be met.

The steering group will develop a five year plan of action to promote FairTrade in local shops and businesses and to improve our application next time around.
