Heartbroken parents pay tribute to Ashfield teenager Corah

Heartbroken mum, Lisa, described how the seventeen- year-old fought for breath to say her last word - “mum”.

“It was the last word she ever said and she hadn’t spoken for weeks,” said Lisa.

“It was one of the hardest things when she couldn’t sing or talk.”

Both parents, Lisa and Carl, described how Corah died peacefully in their arms.

Lisa said: “Corah was the best daughter anybody could hope for.

“She was such a funny, lovely, genuine girl who lightened up everybody’s day.

“She is going to be deeply missed because she was a true inspiration.”

Corah went into the hospital for a chest x-ray on the Wednesday morning after she became unwell, her parents told Chad.

She fought on to the bitter end but lost her fight for life in the early hours of the next morning.

“We went into the hospital with a daughter and came out with just a memory box,” said Lisa.

Dad Carl added: “She was such a brave young lady - never complained or moaned.”

Over the past six months, the Chad has followed Corah’s story and her battle with mitochondrial- a disease which gives sufferers constant seizures and convulsions.

The whole community got behind the remarkable teenager after Chad highlighted the family’s campaign to raise thousands to pay for modifications to their home which would allow them to properly care for the former Ashfield School pupil.

Local businesses, friends and family pulled together to help with the fundraising.

A social media campaign was launched, and Corah’s story had more than 4,000 Facebook likes, as well as thousands of pounds in donations at their fundraising website AChorus4Corah.

The family have arranged for a white horse and carriage to lead Corah’s funeral cortege, and a white Bentley has also been donated for the day, along with several other cars.

The Slaney family have said that everybody is welcome at the funeral. They ask that everyone who attends wears a dash of purple to the service - Corah’s favourite colour.

The funeral will take place at Mansfield Crematorium at 12.30pm on Thursday 16th July.
