Health trust announces its proposed new chief executive

Mike Pinkerton has been selected as the next Chief Executive of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, subject to approval by its Board of Governors.

Mike, 51, who lives in Retford, beat an extremely strong field of shortlisted candidates following an open recruitment process that began this summer and attracted a very high calibre of applications.

MIke is a former director of Bassetlaw Hospital and Community Service NHS Trust, which was followed by a director appointment at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust at its creation in 2001.

After a period at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Mike rejoined Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals in June 2012 as Director of Transformation.

He has been Acting Chief Executive of the Trust since Ron Calvert’s departure at the end of September.

Trust chairman Chris Scholey said: “Mike beat a very strong field of applicants for the role, including a number who already are or have been chief executive of other organisations, and I am confident that he will provide the Trust with the right strategic vision and leadership to steer us to continued success and the delivery of high-quality care.”

Speaking of his selection, Mike said: “I am delighted to be recommended for this post, subject to the approval of Board of Governors. I am really looking forward to working with the excellent staff in the Trust, and with our partners, in developing our services and continuously improving outcomes for patients.”

If approved by the Board of Governors, Mike would commence as Chief Executive on a substantive basis on 20th December 2012.
