Have your say on council's 15 year planning blueprint for Bassetlaw

Worksop will be the focal-point of a 15 year planning blueprint for Bassetlaw which will see the build of more than 6,000 new homes and 177 hectares of employment land unlocked across the district.

Under Bassetlaw District Council’s Local Plan, which is now under consultation, Worksop is to be recognised as the district’s “primary town”- the largest centre for housing and employment.

The council say they are aiming to fufil the needs of future generations in Bassetlaw by meeting an annual target of 435 new homes built 11.8 hectares of employment land created in the area per year.

But council chiefs added that Worksop is to accommodate “the highest proportion” of employment and housing growth over the life of the plan.

It is hoped the town will become a “regional sub-centre” thanks to its strong links to South Yorkshire and its proximity to the A1, M1, A57 and east-west rail links.

There are also proposals to build a new “settlement”, the location of which has not yet been determined, in the district of around 1,000 houses which could lead to additional services such as a primary school.

A spokesman for the council said: “At this stage of the Bassetlaw Plan, a new settlement for the district is just a concept and the council are keen to gauge residents.”

Councillor Jo White, deputy leader of Bassetlaw District Council and cabinet member for regeneration said the plan was “one of the most important pieces of work the council will carry out” as it shapes the district for a generation.

Ms White added: “The Bassetlaw Plan is fundamental to the growth and success of our district over the next 15 years.

“This draft document is the start of our conversation with Bassetlaw residents, businesses and communities about how we can achieve Government housing requirements now and in the future.

“The plan also sets out our own aspirations for how we allocate land for jobs, investment and increased opportunities for residents. It is vital that people have their say.”
