Harworth: Youngster is fund raising inspiration

Curtis Brocklesby, 14, was first diagnosed with AML, an adult leukaemia, at the age of seven.

Seeing the bravey Curtis showed throughout his treatment, Luke Ellis was inspired to raise money for Children with Cancer UK.

Luke is currently serving his 12th year in the Royal Air Force based at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire and has also served in Afghanistan.

Luke said: “In October 2012 the news came that once again Curtis’ leukaemia had returned and formed a tumour on his brain which the doctors had never seen before and professors from all around the world were contacted on this matter to find a solution.”

“With a lot of courage and the help of the doctors at Sheffield Children’s Hospital he was once again at a stage of being in remission a month before his 14th birthday.”

“After seeing his bravery I was inspired to try and make a difference and help all children who are suffering from cancer.”

Luke ran the Great North Run earlier this month and will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2014.

He is hoping to raise £5,000 for the charity which helps fund life-saving research into the causes, prevention and treatment of childhood leukaemia and other childhood cancers, and work to protect young lives through essential welfare and campaigning programmes.

To raise further funds for charity Luke has organised a charity dinner and dance at the West Retford Hotel on Friday 28th September.

The event starts at 7pm and tickets cost £30 and are still available.
