Harworth and Bircotes: Jailed prolific thief slapped with CRASBO

A prolific thief currently serving a custodial sentence will have a night-time curfew to look forward to on his release, after he became subject to a Criminal Antisocial Behaviour Order (CRASBO).

Darren Lyons, 36, of no fixed abode, was issued the CRASBO at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Friday 17th October.

It means he will be subject to an overnight curfew prohibiting him from entering large areas of Harworth, Bircotes and the villages of Scrooby and Ranskill between 9pm and 7am.

The order will also prevent Lyons contacting a number of individuals, as well as restricting him from being in part of Norfolk Road, Bircotes, and on any land forming part of an address in Bawtry at any time.

Inspector Neil Bellamy said: “Mr Lyons is well-known to local people, having plagued residents of Harworth and East Bassetlaw with his criminal and antisocial behaviour over a period of almost two decades.”

“This kind of behaviour is absolutely unacceptable and I hope this order offers some reassurance that we will pursue anyone committing this kind of behaviour in our community and will put all necessary measures in place to curtail their activities.”

Lyons had previously been subject to an interim order following a theft from a motor vehicle in Harworth in April 2014. During sentencing, he admitted 40 other thefts from motor vehicle offences.

The interim CRASBO was upgraded to a full order at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

The order was sought as part of Operation Kinetic, which Notts Police is running to target problematic offenders within the Bassetlaw area.

Report antisocial behaviour by calling police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
