Tenants of Comet Drive in Eastwood say they don't feel safe in their own homes in the secluded cul-de-sac not far from the main shopping street on Nottingham Road.

Armed police flocked to the small street behind the Three Tuns pub on Sunday night (February 14), after reports of two gunshots being fired and witnesses say they heard a car speed off.

But the news of the gunshots fired at house was only the latest in an ongoing spate of disturbances which continue to plague neighbours, driving some to try and move away from the nightmare cul-de-sac.

Pensioner Joan Teagle, 75, a retired Machinist who has lived on the street for 18 years said this latest incident on the street has made her want to move house.

She added: "Police have been round. There were gun shots last night. - two... 'BANG, BANG.'

"Down here everything vibrates, even when there's fireworks. I couldn't see anything, but I thought I heard a helicopter - it was someone driving away.

"It makes you frightened. It's really upset me. We're pensioners and we've been here 18 years. I've never had anything like this before, but since they've been bringing new tenants, they come in and out, and there's been drugs - all sorts of things happening. We're wondering what's going to happen next.

I've tried social services - I don't know what to to."

Another neighbour has already asked her council landowners to be moved away from the street, added Joan. "She's that scared, her little girl was really upset by it.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named because she feared retribution, said: "I didn't see it but we heard two bangs. We thought they were fireworks and then we saw it all kick off. Police were everywhere and everyone was saying it was gunshots. It was scary."

Another neighbour on Comet Drive, Julie Smith, 35, said: "It sounded just really loud and close together. It was louder than a firework.

"It's something you don't think is going to happen, it was scary. I'm on edge, they could have got the wrong house."

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed officers are investigating following reports of gunshots heard in Comet Drive, Eastwood.

A spokesperson said: "Armed response officers attended at a property in the road at about 8.10pm on Sunday 14 February.

"A window had been damaged but no-one was injured. No weapons were found."

The Eastwood Advertiser understands police have obtained CCTV footage from near the scene - which may identify any gunmen.
