Guest Column: Police deal is great news for the town

As part of this, the council has secured an extra police officer and PCSOs to be on the streets, in addition to a CID unit, a schools liaison officer, a local intelligence officer and a dedicated town centre patrol, based in Worksop.

This is an extremely positive move for the public, the town centre, the police and the council with increased police visibility.

It will also further enhance the services the council is able to offer Bassetlaw residents.

The council has worked very hard with Craig Guildford, Nottinghamshire’s Chief Constable, and Paddy Tipping, Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, to make this relocation and extra support happen and I look forward to welcoming all the officers to their new home later this year.

The Tour of Britain will again return to Bassetlaw this year as part of a Nottinghamshire stage between September 2 and 9.

Last year, the race helped to create a carnival atmosphere throughout the district as some of the world’s best cyclists were put to the test.

I hope that we can give them a big Bassetlaw welcome again this year with even more people lining the streets to cheer the cyclists on.

Finally, myself and partners at Bassetlaw Business Forum, the Business Improvement District, North Notts Envoys, the Love Worksop group and other business representatives have been in discussions on the next phase for the Worksop Taskforce.

We already have quite a few ideas on how we can help to improve things in the town centre and ensure that it is a welcoming and vibrant place to come.
