Many MPs from across the country have suggested that the Tories are ‘failing to protect the public’.

New figures reveal funding to South Yorkshire Police is to be cut for an eighth consecutive year as police officer numbers nationwide fall to the lowest levels in three decades.

Opposition MPs tried to force the Government to back Labour’s plan to increase police officer numbers by 10,000 and put community safety and public security first.

In South Yorkshire, violent crime has risen by a staggering 62 per cent and total recorded crime has risen by 34 per cent.

Since 2010 South Yorkshire has lost 480 police officers.

The public is sick and tired of cuts to our police. I feel there aren’t enough officers to keep our communities safe and fight crime. In my viewt he Tories are failing to protect the public but now they have the chance to back Labour’s plan to put 10,000 officers back on our streets . It’s time they put the safety of our communities first.

While hard-pressed local taxpayers are being asked to pay more, the Conservatives want to force through another year of real-terms cuts to policing from Westminster.

With officer numbers at record lows, it’s time the Tories called time on their cuts and backed Labour’s plan to put 10,000 officers back on our streets.
