GUARDIAN ROSE: '˜Outstanding' teacher turns lives around in first year after qualifying

Devon Huxley-Worn, who teaches at St. Augustine’s Parimary School on Longfellow Drive, was presented with the accolade in a surprise ceremony during playtime last week.

The teacher, who is only in her first year of the job since qualifying, was nominated by Worksop parents Natalie Watkinson aand Natasha Austin whose children, five-year-old Jasmin and four-year-old Kayden, attend St. Augustine’s.

Natalie, who contacted the Guardian to make the nomination, said: “It may only beMiss Huxley-Worn’s first year of qualifying, but the help she has given our children in terms of their confidence has just been absolutely amazing.

“Kayden struggles with his speaking, but since he has been in Miss Huxley-Worn’s class he has come on in leaps and bounds with his speech and is feeling a lot more confident.

“Jasmin was a quiet little girl before but she has really come on with her reading and, since being taught by Miss Huxley-Worn, has also come out of her shell.

“We felt it was important that Miss Huxley-Worn was recognised for her efforts by ourselves and our children too.

“We were delighted to present her with the award,” Natalie added.

Our Guardian Roses are generously donated by popular Worksop florist Walker’s House of Flowers, which isbased in the Priory Shopping Centre.
