Great season for Mel with multiple wins

Often during bright, sunny days the fish just aren’t having it and the dull, cooler mornings and evenings fish best.

Warm weather brings out the anglers but not necessarily the fish.

As the nights have become cooler and the days shorter, the water temperatures have dropped slightly and, coupled with the overcast conditions, fish are now readily being caught throughout the day.

Catch reports are on the up and bumper catches on the cards so put your sun cream away but not your rods.

The catch of the week has to go to Gary Furney, who bagged an incredible 85lb of bream during the Worksop and District AC open at Weir Field.

This is a truly commendable weight for the wild waters of the river Trent.

Gary lost a few fish too. Could a ton be on the cards?

Local club angler Mel Kirton has had a tremendous season, winning many British Gas AC and Tuesday Club events.

Boat fishing has been consistently good but the autumn feel and gradually decreasing temperatures means one thing; more fish off the bank.

Lots of big daddies about and the margins are full of fry, which will get the fish moving around.

Boats doing well fishing on the drift with Daddies, Hoppers, Bumbles, Small Boobies and Diawl Bachs.

Andy Hutson’s distance casting earned him the biggest Rainbow of the week at over 6lb.

Worksop Angling Supplies: The store has gone onto winter opening hours, from 7am to 5pm
