Going for Gold!

GAINSBOROUGH is going for gold now that the London 2012 Olympic Games have begun.

Children at primary schools across the town got stuck into sporty activities in the last few days before the summer holidays.

Sports Day at Lea Francis Olive Anderson Primary School was extra special this year with a visit from a real Olympic Torch.

And proud torchbearer Megan Ainsworth and her mum Jane even popped into the Gainsborough Standard office with her impressive baton.

Meanwhile, Gainsborough dancer Calum Flynn was ‘honoured’ to perform for Olympic fans in The Mall outside Buckingham Palace on Sunday.

He represented our town with his dance troupe Four Corners as they provided the official entertainment for spectators lining the Royal strip.

Calum’s mum Sara Kelsey told the Standard: “It’s such an honour for Calum to be dancing at the Games. We are all so proud of him.”

At Queen Elizabeth’s High School in Gainsborough, students were treated to an energetic performance by Street dance star, Akai, 13.

He won Sky1’s Got to Dance talent show and got pupils’ pulses racing by teaching them dance moves. It was a reward for the school for winning a national competition by the British Heart Foundation to make healthy snacking more appetising.

Gainsborough teen Brittany Senescall will travel down to the capital after winning a pair of Olympics tickets.

Her words on friendship were chosen to appear in a mural which will go to the Games. It was part of a Nottingham art project organised by StreetGames and Coca Cola.
