Gemma Cosby decided to take action for herself after a poor diet of fast food and takeaways, combined with local treats from the various places she visited in her work, saw her quickly start to gain weight.

Gemma soon started needed size 16 or 18 clothes – and she is only 5ft 2in tall – and she struggled to exercise and enjoy the outdoors,

But it wasn’t until the extra weight began to cause added health complications such as sciatica, and the worry of needing a seat belt extension on that next flight, that Gemma decided she needed to take action.

She turned to her local Slimming World Group in Bawtry and thoroughly inspired by the warm welcome she received and her introduction to the Food Optimising plan, Gemma set off on her slimming journey, which would see her shed more than three stones and drop to a petite size eight.

She said: “With the support of my group and food optimising, I’ve learned the tools I need to make good food choices and stay slim and healthy for the rest of my life.

“Simple things like asking for dressings on the side, opting for meals without sauces and picking grilled foods instead of fried foods have been a great help.

“Even when I’m travelling I’m not afraid to ask for my meals to be optimised to ensure I stick to the healthy options.”

Gemma has now decided that she wants to give help and support to other people who are struggling with their weight.

She’s now trained as a consultant for Slimming World, and will be re-launching the Bawtry group on August 30.

Gemma says “I’m so excited to be taking this next step – the support provided by our group is really the most important thing.

“It all starts with feeling that you’re not alone.

“I couldn’t have lost more than three stone without the weekly help, encouragement and understanding of my own consultant and group.

“As someone who has lost weight myself I know the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, I will be there to support every one of my members all the way to their dream target weights, providing guidance and support, sharing recipes and other ideas, and working together as a group to overcome challenges and celebrate success is so important to a successful journey.

“At my group, there will be tons of support and fun.”

The group will meet at the New Hall on Station Road in Bawtry every Thursday at 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
