GCSEs: Worksop school’s have a record breaking year

Schools across Worksop saw record breaking results as students got their GCSE results.

Outwood Academy Valley saw a 12 per cent increase in students achieving five A* to C grades in English and Maths taking it up to 78 per cent.

Principal Angela Hull, said: “These results are spectacular and we are obviously thrilled for all our students.”

“The results are a true reflection of the amount of hard work by both students of hard work by both students and staff, and also the support given by parents and carers.”

“Our students are to be congratulated on their incredible determination and effort.”

“As a result of their effort and hard work they will have a wide range of opportunities available to them and it has been an absolute pleasure to share the successes.”

Outwood Academy Portland have also had a record breaking year with the percentage of students achieving five A to C grades increasing from 57 to 75.

Principal Dr Philip Smith , said: “We’re all very proud of our students.”

“Everyone has done better than I ever could have dreamed of.”

One of the star performers at Outwood Academy Valley was Zeeshan Hussain who got three A*s and six A grades.

He said: “I’m really glad about it and really pleased.”

“All my hard work has paid off.”

Zeeshan is now going on to do his A Levels.

Charlotte Taylor from Outwood Academy Portland is hoping to get A Levels and study Maths at university.

She said: “I’m really pleased. I was nervous so I’m really glad we have got what we wanted.”

“I am now going to sixth form and I want to do further maths, politics and chemistry.”

Some students were surprised with their results.

Lucy Wheatley, from Outwood Academy Portland, said: “I never expected to get these results.”

“Last year I would have thought I would have got C’s but I have got A’s and B’s.”

Aaron Clarke from Outwood Academy Valley, was named Learning Management Student of the Year, and was really happy with his results.

He said: “I’m happy with them because it took along time to get here and now all I can think about is the future.”

Aaron is hoping to go on to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Maths,

Despite it being a record breaking year for Worksop schools overall the national figutes has shown the proportion of exam entries graded between an A* and a C was 68.1 per cent down from 69.4 per cent last year and the proportion getting an A* or an A fell from 22.4 per cent to 21.3 per cent.
