GCSEs: Aston Academy’s astounding exam success

Amazing achievements were celebrated at Aston Academy as pupils ripped open their long-awaited GCSE results.

Students who passed five or more GCSEs at grades A* - C totalled 99 per cent, and 76.3 per cent of achieved the same including maths and English.

Principal Eunice Newton said the results represented outstanding progress on previous years.

There were more students who gained the English Baccalaureate qualification this year too, with a record breaking 33 per cent who got GCSE grades A* - C in EBacc subjects English, maths, science, humanities and modern foreign languages.

“Students have worked exceptionally hard this year. These fantastic results are well deserved, reflecting the high levels of commitment from both students and staff, and support from parents,” said Mrs Newton.

She added that lots of students across a range of abilities performed ‘exceptionally well’.

They included:

Archie Galbraith and Daniel Reynolds who both achieved 10 A*s and three As.

Millie Bolsover who got three A* and nine A grades.

Sophie Clark with seven A*s, five As and one B.

Jack Hogg who gained eight A*s, four As and one B.

Hannah O’Kane who got three A*s, nine As and one B.

And Joshua Parkin with one A*, 11 A grades and one B.
