GCSE RESULTS: Worksop students praised for ‘amazing’ grades

Worksop students studying outside the town have been flying the flag high, with some excellent GCSE results.

At Hill House School in Doncaster, pupils Lizzie Bennett, Lewis Wilkinson and Toby Smith are celebrating after receiving their grades this morning.

Pupils Lizzie and Lewis returned from a summer school trip trekking in Botswana and working in an orphanage to collect 20 GCSE passes between them. And England rowing hopeful Toby combined his gruelling training with seven A*/As and three B grades.

Overall, 93 per cent of students achieved five A*-C grades including maths and English, while 41 per cent of exams were graded at A* or A. Over a third of the entire year group earned at least five As or A*s each.

Headmaster David Holland said: “This reflects a lot of hard work and talent from both students and teachers. One of the most important things at Hill House is that we want pupils to be well rounded individuals, and we are thrilled at these wonderful results from students who also contribute hugely to the local community.”

At Sheffield High School, Faith Nagra. of Worksop and Lucinda Armstrong of Barlborough have notched up a total of 17A* grades between.

In total, the percentage of top grades at the school was up 12 per cent on last year.

Headteacher Valerie Dunsford said: “I am delighted for the girls and staff on these amazing results across such a wide range of subjects. With over 80 per cent of grades being A*/A in languages and science, as well as 92 per cent gaining A* in religious studies and 100 per cent in drama, this shows the wide variety of talents our girls are able to develop at Sheffield High.”
