Students collected their results this morning and for many it was a welcome relief.

Youngsters at Dinnington High School achieved a 97 per cent pass rate, with 54 per cent of that figure recording five or more A*-C grades or equivalent. And 47 per cent of students achieved five A*-C grades which included maths and English.

A couple of notable stand-out performers include Emily Staniland, who achieved seven A* and three A grades.

At Wales High School, teachers were delighted as more students than ever before achieved the highest A*/A grades. The overall performance of students also improved, with 65 per cent of students gaining  five A*-C grades including English and maths.

Headteacher Pepe D’iasio said: ”The work of our students and teachers has resulted in a superb set of results for the students.  More than one in two students achieved an A*/A, whilst almost every student achieved at least five GCSE passes.”
