Gary Allen, 32, from Worksop and his friend Jim Moore, also 32, will be walking 140 miles in five days, from Jim’s home in Hemel Hempstead to Dinnington.

Gary said: “The walk is in aid of the British Red Cross, whose charity was extremely well received by both of our grandparents during the last months of their lives and so is very close to our hearts.

“We have done a number of practise walks including this past weekend when we walked 26 miles on Saturday and 21 miles on Sunday

“The walk is going to be extremely physically and mentally demanding.

“However will be extremely rewarding.“

Although he lives in Hemel Hempstead, Jim has connections to the local South Yorkshire area as his grandparents used to live in Gildingwells in Rotherham, not far from the pair’s final destination in Dinnington.

The pair will set out from Hemel Hempstead on Wednesday, March 23 and arrive in Dinnington on Sunday, March 27.

All money donated will be going to the British Red Cross and the two men have set up a Virgin Money Giving page for anyone who wants to donate to their cause and support them on their walk.
