He progressed through the ranks both in uniformed operations and criminal investigation roles, particularly enjoying his experience as a detective.

In October 2010 Roger took up the role as temporary Assistant Chief Constable in Lincolnshire Police and in March 2012 graduated from the Strategic Command Course.

Roger said: “I am delighted to have been offered what is an exciting new challenge for me and the chance to continue serving in such a progressive and innovative police force.”

“In the last few years it has continued to reduce crime to an all-time low, remodel service delivery to remain responsive to the ever-changing needs of society and to reduce its overall operating budget.”

“Those achievements are in no small part down to Simon Edens, who has been a first class Deputy Chief Constable to work for and from whom I have learned a great deal.”

“As his successor I will do my best to build on the excellent work that has been achieved over the last few years for the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.”

Chief Constable Simon Cole said: “In Roger we had an excellent candidate who, as ACC, has demonstrated a breadth of strategic and forward-thinking vision which will serve the force and the wider population very well in the coming years in his new role.“

Mr Bannister, who is married and has twin boys, lists among his hobbies mountaineering, sailing and skiing and will start his new role this summer.
