Gainsborough: There are plenty of activities at Gainsborough library this summer

Over the summer why not join in the runner bean challenge at Gainsborough library.

Visit the library every Thursday during the school holidays for some fun activities and to see how your bean measures up. You can also join in making a record breaking Daisy Chain all around the children’s library.

The challenge starts on Thursday 23rd July when you will plant your bean and listen to the classic Jack and the Beanstalk story. On Thursday 30th July go potty making a pot for your bean plant. On Thursday 6th August make your very own lizard and discover some amazing animal facts and stories. On Thursday 13th August bring your ipad or tablet along and take part in a high-tech treasure hunt around the library, can you find all the summer reading challenge characters? On Thursday 20th August join in with lots of sporty challenges including the sack and egg and spoon race and on Thursday 27th August build your very own space rocket and check whether your bean is tall enough to reach the stars yet.

All events are 11amm to 11.30am, suitable for children 5 years and older.

No need to book, just turn up.

Chldren can also get involved in the Summer Reading Challenge over the holidays.

Organised by The Reading Agency charity and the public library network, the annual Summer Reading Challenge, aimed at four to 11-year-olds and their families is simple and fun.

Children are encouraged to read six or more library books of their choice during the summer holidays with collectable incentives and rewards, plus a certificate for every child who completes the challenge.

Children can sign up at their local library at the start of the summer holidays.
