Gainsborough: Team of walkers complete Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

Four avid walkers from John Brash Co. Ltd joined forces with a 12 strong team of ramblers from the UK’s leading generalist roofing merchant, Jewson Roofing in the challenge to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales.

The group started in the Scottish Highlands by tackling 1,334m tall Ben Nevis before hotfooting the 265 miles in their minibus to scale 913m high Scafell Pike in the Lake District.

The last leg of their journey saw them cover 193 miles to North Wales to get up 1,085m tall Snowdon as quickly as they could.

They battled the elements to raise £7,439 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Unsung hero of the group Steve McConnell from John Brash, who acted as the driver for the 450-mile route from Ben Nevis to Snowdon, praised the efforts of the walkers, who battled the elements for a good cause.

Steve said: “It was a very demanding challenge for everyone involved in a group that ranged from very experienced to not-so-experienced hikers, but they were all focused on completing the challenge and raising as much as they could for charity.

“We chose to start at Ben Nevis at 5.30pm.

“This meant coming back down the mountain in the dark, which was quite tricky for some of the group, given the weather conditions.

“But they all made it back safely, and it was a case of on to the next one and so on.

“They were greeted by much the same instantly changeable conditions on Scafell Pike and Snowdon, where the weather could be pleasant one minute and close in the next.

“But they all battled on to complete the challenge.”

In total, the group walked more than 25 miles scaling the three peaks.

Steve added that the feeling within the group was that two great things had happened, they had raised a lot of much-needed money for a very worthy cause and they had been able to enjoy some of the most breath-taking views of the UK.
