Gainsborough: Taster day for future students at Gainsborough College

Ever fancied trying hair dressing, carpentry or construction work? If so you can have a go at an open day for prospective students at Gainsborough College.

The open day on Saturday 9th May between 11am and 2.30pm will allow guests to visit the different departments on campus such as the hair and beauty salons as well as the carpentry, and motor vehicle workshops and take part in taster workshops.

The workshops are designed to give potential students first-hand experience of what their time at Gainsborough College would be like.

The subjects that are on offer are hairdressing, beauty therapy, carpentry and joinery, child care, health and social care, travel and tourism, motor vehicle maintenance, painting and decorating, brickwork and foundation studies.

All of the subjects can be studied at different levels and have varying entry requirements.

Some courses, such as foundation studies, don’t have any entry requirements meaning there is something to suit all abilities regardless of qualifications.

The college now also offers A-levels in English, psychology, sociology, law, biology and geography and Level 3 BTEC Diplomas in sport and business which are run in partnership with The Gainsborough Academy.

Elaine Johnson, the Gainsborough Centre manager, said: “The open day is an exciting new opportunity for post-16 students in the town who are completing or have already completed their GSCEs and are wondering what to do next. However, if you can’t attend the open day there will be another chance to find out about the courses on offer at an information evening for 16 to 19-year-olds at the Gainsborough Academy on Tuesday 12th May between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.”
