The Gainsborough Heritage Centre is hosting a talk at Gainsborough House in Parnell Street, Gainsborough on Wednesday, November 18, at 7.30pm, called The Lincolnshire Dialect by Loretta Rivett
Loretta has a lifelong interest in the spoken word especially her own local Lincolnshire dialect. The talk will consist of an evening of dialect poetry and tales including an explanation into the origins of some of Lincolnshire’s words dating back to the 14th century.
Loretta said: “I was brought up in North Kelsey speaking a broad Lincolnshire dialect spoken by everyone in the village.
“This was my first language and it was only really when I attended a school away from the village that I learned another form of English.”
The cost of the talk will be £4 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits.
