Pupils from Gainsborough Academy and Queen Elizabeth’s High School attended a special event to promote careers in engineering and science at the home of the Red Arrows.

Over 300 students from schools across Lincolnshire were treated to a display by the Red Arrows and met guest speakers including Professor Brian Cox and Gadget Show presenter Jason Bradbury.

The show at RAF Scampton, near Lincoln, was organised to celebrate the Red Arrows’ 50th display season and to focus on the importance of studying science, technology, engineering and maths.

Prof Cox, said: “The statistics are frightening but also inspiring.”

“We need a million more people in engineering by the year 2020 just to stand still.”

“That is across all levels from apprentices to PHDs.

“What that means is there will be tremendous opportunities for pupils to pursue careers in fields such as aerospace and engineering.”
