Gainsborough: Still a chance to help turn on this year’s Christmas lights

Santa has teamed up with the team at Marshall’s Yard and your Gainsborough Standard to ask the town’s youngsters to write in and explain why they should be the one to light up Gainsborough for the festive period this year.

Youngsters have until Friday, November 13, at 5pm to get their letters in to the Gainsborough Standard office.

Santa and his team will then choose a lucky child to switch on Marshall’s Yard’s lights on Saturday. November 21, at 6pm.

The winning child will also win a Marks & Spencer Christmas hamper for their family, as well as a Christmas turkey and traditional family board game.

There will be entertainment throughout Gainsborough from 1pm at the Big Switch On, with stages in the town centre and Marshall’s Yard.

There will also be two fairgrounds, free horse-and-carriage rides, free face painting, food and craft stalls, stilt walkers and plenty of other attractions. The evening will end with a fireworks display at Marshall’s Yard.

Entries should be a maximum of 200 words, which can be emailed to the Gainsborough Standard at [email protected] or delivered to The Gainsborough Standard office in Britannia House, Marshall’s Yard.

The deadline for entries is 5pm on Friday, November 13.
