Gainsborough: Spate of rubbish fires sparks warning to residents

Lincs Police and Lincs Fire and Rescue are investigating the incidents, which are being treated seriously.

Kate Hearn, chair of the West Lindsey Community Safety Partnership, said: “It appears several of the incidents involved bags of rubbish left out for collection being set on fire in a highly residential area close to properties and vehicles.”

“This is a big concern and it was fortunate that no-one was injured in these incidents.”

West Lindsey District Council is working closely with the police and the fire service to see if there are any measures they can take to assist them in reducing any risks.

Kate added: “In the meantime we would like to advise residents of the fire risk and ask you to keep bags within property boundaries until collection day.”

“Early presentation of waste is an offence in itself but it’s unsightly for neighbours and can be a health and fire risk.”

Firefighters attended fires in the vicinity of the area around Trinity Street and Sandsfield Lane between Sunday 29th and Monday 30th June.
