Gainsborough: Selective Licensing consultation is now complete

The consultation responses and future proposals are currently being considered and a report will go to the Prosperous Communities Committee on 16th December 2014.

The council is delighted with the level of response and the comments which have been received have helped to ensure all the necessary considerations will be made in terms of the final proposal.

Coun Owen Bierley, chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee, said: “We are very pleased with the level of response we have received.”

“Nearly 700 surveys have been completed alongside a huge amount of comments from the various consultation events that have taken place.”

“The council is committed to ensuring that all of the comments are considered to ensure that the correct decision is made in regards to whether or not the scheme should proceed.”

If implemented, the selective licensing scheme would require all private landlords in the area to obtain a license.

This would include a set of conditions they must abide by.

These include the presentation of annual gas safety certificates, keeping smoke alarms in good working order and for each landlord to undertake a fit and proper persons test.

If any landlord does not adhere to the conditions it may then lead to prosecution.

The council will continue to update its website, www.west-lindsey.gov.uk, with additional information in regards to the timescales for decision.
