Awards included 8 Queen’s Scout Awards (the highest award available to young people), Explorer Belt Award, Chief Scout Platinum Award, Duke of Edinburgh and Young Leader training.

William Baldock, 23, District Explorer Scout Commissioner was also presented with a Commissioner’s Commendation Award for services to Scouting in Gainsborough and Lincolnshire.

This is recognising his involvement in developing Explorer Scouting in Gainsborough and supporting the Lincolnshire County Youth Forum.

Along with presenting awards, the night also provided the opportunity to thank everyone who has helped support the Explorer Scout section throughout 2014 as all of it would not have been possible without their support as adult volunteers both young and old providing skills and expertise.

There was also the opportunity to spring a little surprise presentation to recognise long service, commitment and dedication of one of the scouts adult volunteers, District Treasurer, Maurice Brunton, 90, who has supported Scouting for over 60 years and still plays a vital role in the running of the district.

William Baldock said: “2014 has seen some changes to the Explorer Scout section in the town where the young people are now shaping the programme and decisions, helping the District to fulfil the 2018 Vision.”

“As we continue to grow we are looking to expand our leadership team to allow more young people to benefit from the fun, adventure and challenges Scouting provides.”

The Scout Association’s 2018 Vision is that Scouting in 2018 will be shaped by young people in partnership with adults, with young people driving decision making and to stimulate new thinking.
