Gainsborough residents wish the NHS a happy 70th birthday with heartfelt message in card

As part of the 70 years of the NHS celebrations the people of Gainsborough were asked to sign a birthday card as a way to say thank you to the health service.

The card was presented to staff on Scotter Ward at John Coupland Hospital by members of Gainsborough’s labour party.

Thursday, July 5, marked 70 years since the National Health Service was first formed.

Events to celebrate took place up and down the country.

Gainsborough Constituency Labour Party Chair, Coun David Bond said that the card had provided a real opportunity for the community to express its thanks and best wishes to the hospital that has served them so well for so many years.

The card has been displayed at the Labour Stall on Armed Forces Day in Gainsborough Market and at a 70th. Celebration Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Affordable Foods in Queensway, to allow people to leave a message for NHS staff inside.

At all these events many hospital stories were shared, some with joy and laughter others with sadness and tears but always with a fondness and enthusiasm for thehealth service.

The card was filled with heartfelt messages.

One said: “Best thing in Britain.”

Another said: “We need you now more than ever.”

And one resident wrote: “Thanks for helping my heart.”

Coun David Bond said: “We often take for granted the things that matter the most, but as we know only too well, when illness touches your world then the value of hospital and all the wonderful staff within it become very precious. So a massive thank you to the NHS from the people of Gainsborough and the Labour Party, a very Happy Birthday and the last words come from a quote in the card, we’d be lost without you.”
