Gainsborough: Parkinson’s group has been awarded money from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund

Following votes from members of the public, the group has been awarded a grant from Lloyds Bank to enable it to continue doing good work in the community.

The Gainsborough Group is made up of both people with Parkinson’s and their carers.

It exists to provide mutual support and friendship for anyone dealing with the disease.

The group meets in Morton Village Hall on the last Tuesday of each month at 10.30am for refreshments and a chat.

The groups activities include a regular exercise class for members which is subsidised by group funds, the occasional speaker and some outings which take place throughout the year.

The money provided by the Lloyds Bank Community Fund will help to ensure that the exercise class can continue to run for the foreseeable future and enable us to consider grants for members for the purchase of equipment in the next financial year.

Money is also set aside to provide individual grants to members for the purchase of equipment which should improve their quality of life.

The provision of the award will enable the group to provide continuity of provision in the immediate future and will ensure that, in Gainsborough, no-one has to face Parkinson’s alone.

Nearly 1.5m votes were cast for good causes across the country during the voting that took place between 2nd September and 10th October.

More than 700,000 people will benefit either directly or indirectly from the good work the 1,400 good causes across the country will be able to deliver as a result of receiving a Community Fund 2014 award.
