Gainsborough: Opportunities in Pass It On scheme

The scheme has been established in Gainsborough since 2004 and they currently have volunteering opportunities available.

Pass It On’s aim is to give away free, via a referral scheme, essential household items, such as bedding, curtains, towels, pots, pans and cutlery, to members of the public who, at that time, have no other means of purchasing them.

This free service to the community is essential as it helps prevent debt and enables families to stay in their homes.

Families with children and babies can get access to pushchairs to enable them to get out of the house for shopping, visiting groups and school children can be provided with uniform helping them be included in the school environment.

Pass It On rely solely on donations and any excess items are sold in the shops, making them accessible to everyone.

The shop currently employs a part time manager alongside a dedicated team of volunteers and a team of management members who oversee the project.

Pass It On began life about 18 years ago as a service operated by the Home Start charity, which works with families with children under five.

But by 2004 it had grown to such an extent that it became social enterprise in its own right.

They currently have vacancies to join the board, including a minute secretary.

The secretarial duties would include taking the minutes at meetings and general correspondence.

The board currently meet monthly at Pass It On in Church Street, Gainsborough.
