Donna Phillips, a Clinical Nurse Educator and Interim Clinical Nurse lead works on Scotter Ward at John Coupland Hospital, for Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS).

Donna said: “I absolutely love my job and I am so passionate about supporting staff and to see them grow. Education is at the heart and soul of my job and I just love to see staff thrive and be empowered to develop and improve the care for the patients we nurse with the knowledge they have gained.

“Knowing that I have played a part in this makes me feel so proud. I am overwhelmed to have been shortlisted for this award.”

Donna is a social media champion for the Trust tweeting updates about Scotter Ward from the @scotterwardlchs account which sees her interacting with other NHS organisations to share best practice.

She is also a Dementia Champion and has trained more than 250 people to become Dementia Friends.

Donna delivers training through a one hour session which is designed to make people think about the small ways to help a person who has dementia, even something as minor as making a cup of tea to crossing the road safely.

Head of Education and Workforce Development at LCHS, Khonzie Ndlovu-Gachengo, said: “I nominated Donna because she is so inspirational and her passion in education, training and support of staff is so full of enthusiasm. The passion when talking to Donna about education and training makes me want to work on Scotter Ward.

“Together with her compassion and care for her patients it makes me feel proud to be a nurse. Donna is an inspirational leader, educator and mentor of the year and emerging leader and I’m really proud of both her and her shortlisting.”

Donna has been shortlisted for a Special Recognition Award in the Health Education Excellence in Education Awards 2016. She will attend the ceremony on Friday, March 11, at Loughborough where she will find out if she has won.
