The new £1m recycling centre in Gainsborough is now up and running.
The new, purpose-built site boasts a number of improvements over the existing site on Summergangs Lane and it officially opened on Friday 3rd April.
A one-way system and convenient layout will make it much more convenient to use, and reduce the likelihood of queues building up.
The new facility includes several large compactors which will allow more material to be compressed and stored onsite as well as reducing both the cost and the carbon footprint of hauling it from the site for disposal or recycling.
It will also mean that a wider range of materials can be recycled rather than being disposed of.
Any waste that is not recyclable will be transferred to a waste transfer station before it goes to the Energy from Waste facility.
This is currently generating enough electricity to power 26,500 homes for a year through processing waste.
Members of staff will be on-hand at all times to offer guidance and help to anyone who needs it. The whole area is flat, and fully accessible to anyone with reduced mobility.
All staff from the current centre in Gainsborough have been offered the opportunity to transfer to the new site.
Charity banks will also be available for textiles, books and CDs.
The previous centre in Summergangs Lane has now closed.
The opening hours for the new site will be 9am to 4pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday including bank holidays, except 25th and 26th December and 1st January.
