Gainsborough: Man arrested and cigarettes and tobacco seized during shop raid

A man was arrested and cigarettes and tobacco were seized after officers from the Lincolnshire Police Alcohol Licensing Department and Trading Standards Enforcement Team raided a Gainsborough food shop.

The raid at European Food in Trinity Street, Gainsborough took place on Thursday 5th February.

One man was arrested and 15,000 cigarettes and 2.6 kilos of tobacco were seized during the search of the store.

The 30-year-old man was interviewed and released on police bail whilst the investigation is ongoing.

Sgt Kim Enderby, from Alcohol Licensing Department, said: “This store has been raided previously and a large number of cigarettes seized.”

“The dangers of selling illegal cigarettes are well known and we will do everything we can to disrupt the criminals behind it.”

“We will continue to target criminal behaviour, raiding premises based on intelligence supplied to us by members of the public.”

Money from the sale of these cigarettes can be used to fund other criminal activity and unfairly disadvantages other lawful local businesses.”
