The Class A4 Pacific locomotive made its way from its home base at York Railway Museum to Grantham where it was displayed at the town’s railway station over the weekend.
This was one of a number of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of its record breaking run on 3rd July 1938 when raced down Stoke Bank at 126mph.
Due to the Mallard not being in a steamable condition it was hauled by its successor on East Coast main line services in the 1960s, a Deltic diesel locomotive.
The Mallard will be on display at the St Leger Festival in Doncaster, the Mallard’s birthplace, on 14th and 15th September. Admission is free.
