Gainsborough: Mallard is travelling through Gainsborough

The world speed record holder for steam traction will be coming through Gainsborough today (Wednesday).

The Mallard, a class A4 Pacific locomotive, will be making its way from its home base at York Railway Museum to Grantham where it will be on display at the railway station all weekend and will pass through Lea Road station at 12.55pm.

This is one of a number of celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of its record breaking run in July 1938.

Mallard is not in a steamable condition and will be hauled by its successor on East Coast main line services in the 1960s, a Deltic diesel locomotive,

The Mallard-Deltic combination are due back through Lea Road on Monday 9th September at around 11.25am.
