Gainsborough: Learn more about a World War One battle at talk

The talk will be given by Peter Bradshaw and it will be held at Gainsborough House in Parnell Street, Gainsborough.

The cost of the talk will be £4 which includes tea, coffee and biscuits.

On October 13, 1915, the 46th North Midlands Division, which included the above mentioned Lincolnshire Battalions, took part in an almost impossible mission to take the heavily defended Hohenzollern Redoubt.

Within half an hour of the Lincolnshire men going ‘over the top’ at 2pm (1pm BST), more than 880 were dead.

In a single day the 46th Division suffered 3763 casualties.

The talk will focus on the local soldiers from the time they left the town at the outbreak of war, their training and arrival in France in early March 1915, their introduction to trench warfare in Belgium and the attack on the Redoubt.

The exhibition entry fee is £1.50 to non-members of the Association.

The standard yearly membership fee for members is £10 and the benefit of this is free entry to all of the xentre’s exhibitions.
