Work has been ongoing for the past year to get the town ready for the judges visiting with help from town businesses, schools and community groups. This included tackling areas in the town centre including Whittons Gardens and Morton Corner, litter picking, pruning and getting areas ready for planting.

Gainsborough achieved a Silver Award last year and are hoping to improve on that this year and claim the Gold prize.

Gainsborough town manager, Samantha Mellows, said: “The judges spent all morning visiting key sites throughout the town including Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough Old Hall and Gainsborough Golf Club.”

“They were impressed by the level of effort that has been put in by the in bloom team and their work with volunteers.”

“The group won’t find out the results until September but we hope to retain the silver award which they received in 2014.”

“Whilst the judges have now visited, this doesn’t mean that In Bloom stops, the work put in by the team and volunteers is for the benefit of the whole community and work will continue through to the autumn to ensure that Gainsborough looks great throughout the summer.”

The judges will reveal later in the year how Gainsborough have done.
