Gainsborough: Investment helps boost leisure centre membership

West Lindsey Leisure Centre has seen a rise in membership after a £269,000 investment over the last 12 months.

The leisure centre in The Avenue, Gainsborough, has installed a new dance studio, changing rooms, spin studio and exercise equipment at the Gainsborough centre.

These improvements has seen an increase of 60,816 members.

Coun Owen Bierley, chairman of the Prosperous Communities Committee, said: “I am delighted to see that our investment in the leisure centre is paying off.”

“I am delighted to see more and more people are using the facilities and I hope they will continue to do so.”

“If we can provide tools for people to keep fit and healthy hopefully it will receive the pressure on other services such as GP’s and hospital visits.”

In addition to the extra facilities, the council delivered more than £1m of savings from the contract arrangements.

The council works in partnership with Everyone Active to deliver the service.

Leisure centre contract manager, Peter Smith, said: “We are committed to delivering first-rate facilities at our centres and it’s great to hear such positive feedback from our members.”

“We will continue to work with West Lindsey District Council to ensure our facilities play a significant part in creating a more active and healthy community.”

The leisure centre has been named as one of the most improved sports and leisure facility in the UK by The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE).

And it has also been nominated as a finalist in the performance networks most improved award for sport and leisure by APSE.
