Gainsborough: Halloween Festival comes to town

There will be fancy dress and pumpkin carving competitions and a spectacular firework display on the riverside to get people into the spirit of the celebration.

The event will take place on Saturday 26th October between 9am and 6pm.

West Lindsey District Council is hosting the event, which is supported by the Gainsborough Independent Traders Group, Gainsborough Town Council and Lincolnshire County Council. The council is offering all-day free parking in all the council run car parks for the festival.

The popular Saturday market will be extended to include Halloween themed stalls, food and drinks, balloons and even hook a duck games. Street entertainment including jugglers, music, dance and a barrel organ has also been booked.

Coun Malcolm Parish, chairman of the prosperous communities committee at the council said he was looking to take his family to the event.

He said: “Anything we can do to support our local businesses and encourage people to shop local and visit the local market is great. I am looking forward to the event, which will be a great day out for the whole family.”

The firework display will start at 6pm on the Riverside.

Prizes will be offered for the Halloween themed fancy dress and best carved pumpkin competition. There are a number of different categories including under 10s and 10 years and over.

Shop owners have also been asked to back the event by dressing their shop windows on the day. In addition raffle tickets will be available on the day or from local traders prior to the event. The money raised from this will go to the Gainsborough Independent Traders Group to help fund future events.
